TOWN OF LOCKPORT — The contraband Niagara County Jail Corrections Officer John Dale is accused of delivering to an inmate was food, according to a recent report issued from the Niagara County Sheriff's Office.

According to the report, Dale was delivered a package by a woman to his Niagara Falls home on Tuesday. He then delivered the package — containing food — to an inmate at the jail. Dale was charged with accepting a bribe and introducing contraband to the prison for his actions.

The report states that NCSO had recieved a complaint regarding Dale passing contraband to jail inmates "on a regular basis." It further says that investigators surveiled Dale on Tuesday, when they saw "a female walk up to the front door of Mr. Dale's home and hand Mr. Dale a package, which he accepted. Upon a further investigation by members of the Niagara County Jail and this writer it was found that Mr. Dale had passed off food to an inmate in the Jail. Mr. Dale was then removed from the jail and questioned by this writer at the Niagara County Sheriff's Office. Mr. Dale was subsequently arrested on the charges of Bribe Recieving in the 3rd Degree, Official Misconduct, as well as Promoting Prison Contraband in the 2nd Degree. TOWN OF LOCKPORT — A Niagara Falls woman jailed Monday for marijuana possession could find herself with additional drug charges because of what corrections officers found once she got to the Niagara County Jail.

Dierdra A. Hopkins, 48, 547 21st St., Apt. 2, was found to have a bag of marijuana in her purse after the vehicle she was a passenger in was stopped for a traffic infraction.

"Patrol took Hopkins into custody and looked further in the purse," the report said. "Patrol located a total of three plastic bags, each bag containing suspected marijuana from the purse. Patrol also located a glass (bowl) marijuana smoking device."

Hopkins was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana and a public health law violation and taken to Niagara County Jail on $250 bail.

Shortly thereafter, patrol was called back to the Niagara County Jail where Niagara County Corrections Officers found contraband with her, the report said. Patrol was advised that Hopkins had an unknown substance found in her purse — a brown opaque "rock-like" substance.

Patrol gathered the contraband and secured it for evidence. Hopkins stated that she was not sure what the substance was, but would guess that it was purified THC. An Investigator from the Niagara County Drug Task Force was on scene to examine the suspected contraband that was found in Hopkins purse. No determination on the substance was made on scene.

All drug and drug paraphernalia were submitted to the Niagara County Forensic Laboratory for evidence and analysis. Additional charges for Hopkins are pending for the Town of Lockport, depending on the laboratory results on the suspected contraband.

TOWN OF LOCKPORT — For the second time in a week, Niagara County Sheriff's deputies confiscated a red envelope addressed to a Niagara County Jail inmate.

The second occurrence happened on Wednesday when patrol was called to the jail for a report of contraband.

"Upon arrival evidence was turned over to patrol," according to the NCSO report. "The evidence was a red envelope with a greeting card inside. On the rear of the envelope there (were) four rectangular shaped strips where the envelope would seal."

The envelope was sent from a Sanborn resident to an inmate with the same last name.

A corrections officer discovered the unknown strips while searching the inmates mail before distributing it to the inmates. The evidence was submitted to the NCSO Lab for identification of the strips, which the report lists as "possible Suboxone." The investigation will continue pending the lab results.

A similar incident occurred on Saturday when an inmate at the jail received what was believed to be Suboxone strips inside of a red envelope. Wednesday's incident did not involve the same inmate or sender as Saturday's.

Names have been withheld pending charges.
