ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
TOWN OF LOCKPORT — For the second time in a week, Niagara County Sheriff's deputies confiscated a red envelope addressed to a Niagara County Jail inmate.
The second occurrence happened on Wednesday when patrol was called to the jail for a report of contraband.
"Upon arrival evidence was turned over to patrol," according to the NCSO report. "The evidence was a red envelope with a greeting card inside. On the rear of the envelope there (were) four rectangular shaped strips where the envelope would seal."
The envelope was sent from a Sanborn resident to an inmate with the same last name.
A corrections officer discovered the unknown strips while searching the inmates mail before distributing it to the inmates. The evidence was submitted to the NCSO Lab for identification of the strips, which the report lists as "possible Suboxone." The investigation will continue pending the lab results.
A similar incident occurred on Saturday when an inmate at the jail received what was believed to be Suboxone strips inside of a red envelope. Wednesday's incident did not involve the same inmate or sender as Saturday's.
Names have been withheld pending charges.
