TOWN OF LOCKPORT — A 33-year-old Niagara County corrections officer is facing multiple charges after the Niagara County Sheriff's Office says he accepted cash from an outside source to transport contraband into the jail for an inmate.
Correction Officer John Dale has been charged with third-degree bribe receiving, second-degree promoting prison contraband and official misconduct. The alleged incident came to light after intelligence was given to members of the Sheriff’s Office.
Dale, of Niagara Falls, joined the Sheriff’s Office in 2013 as a Corrections Officer. He was arraigned before Town of Lockport Justice Cheryl Antkowiak and bail was set at $2,500. He is scheduled to return to Town of Lockport court on Thursday.
Chief Deputy Michael P. Dunn immediately suspended Officer Dale without pay pending a departmental investigation and hearing. Dunn said that due to the nature of the alleged acts, the on-going criminal investigation, and pending departmental charges, no further information will be forthcoming.
