WHEATFIELD — Lockport Police Department Lieutenant Adam Piedmont was found not guilty this evening of driving while intoxicated after striking a parked car in Newfane on Oct. 5.

Piedmont had told the arresting deputy that he hit the parked vehicle when he checked his cell phone for a message. Wheatfield Town Justice Erin DeLabio found him guilty of that offense — using a cellphone while driving — fining him $150 for the transgression.

Piedmont had refused to take a breathalyzer test or field sobriety tests following the accident, saying he was lightheaded from the accident.

He had been placed on paid administrative leave by LPD following the incident. The leave was to last as long as the case was underway, but he returned to service earlier this year.

Piedmont's case had been moved from Newfane to Wheatfield in December.
