NEWFANE — The Niagara County Sheriff's Office charged Adam R. Piedmont, 33, no address given, with driving while intoxicated, refusal to take a breath test, and operating a motor vehicle while using a mobile phone early Sunday morning after Piedmont had reportedly struck a car in front of 2769 S. Main St.
Piedmont told patrol that he hit the parked vehicle when he checked his cell phone for a message. He was said to have glassy eyes and patrol smelled the eminence of an alcoholic beverage coming from him while talking with him, according to the arrest report. He refused to submit to standard field sobriety testing and said he was light headed and shaken up due to the incident. He also declined a blood alcohol content test.
He was taken to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office where he was issued traffic tickets for DWI, operating a moving vehicle while on a mobile device and refusing to take an alcohol breath test. He was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Newfane Court on Oct. 7 to answer to the charges.
