TOWN OF LOCKPORT - A 24-year-old Robinson Road woman is alive and well this morning, thanks in part to special drug overdose training given to New York State Police.

According to a report filed by NYSP, Troopers responded to a report from the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center of a possible overdose on Robinson Road. When they arrived at the residence, they were immediately met by a resident who took them to a spare bedroom where a 24-year-old female was laying on her back with a used syringe next to her arm.

The woman was not moving and unresponsive. Troopers also noted her breathing was slow and shallow, and her lips had a slight discoloration from lack of oxygen. The State Police members recognized both as signs of a possible drug overdose. The Troopers administered one dose of Naloxone, 1 mg, in the subject's left nostril and observed the woman slowly start to recover. After approximately 10 minutes the female was alert, breathing freely and answering questions.

The woman was checked by Rapids Fire Department EMS personnel and transported to Eastern Niagara Hospital-Lockport, where she was treated and released.

“State Police members have a variety of tools at their disposal to help in emergency situations. First aid bags, trauma kits, AEDs and now Naloxone, give our members the tools to quickly help save a life, just as these Troopers did this morning,” stated Major Michael Cerretto, Troop A Commander. The New York State Police began training Troopers to administer Naloxone in May. Currently, 72 members within Troop A have received the training.
