When an 18-year-old Emily Lane resident happened across a red and white dirt bike lying in a ditch on the east side of East Canal Road in Pendleton last Friday, he took note. When he saw it was still there on Tuesday, he took a friend.

Together with his friend, the Town of Lockport teenager got the bike up out of the mud and brought it back to his Emily Lane home — and called the Niagara County Sheriff's Office to report that he'd found the bike.

When patrol arrived on Emily Lane the dirt bike was in the garage covered in mud. The teenager told patrol that when he pulled it out of the ditch, it was submerged in mud and water — but it was in working order.

Patrol located the VIN number on the dirt bike and discovered that it was a 2007 Honda which was registered to an Amherst woman. The Honda did not show in their database as having been stolen, so patrol called the owner of record. The Amherst woman stated that the Honda was indeed stolen and that she had reported it the Amherst Police Department in July of 2013.

Patrol contacted Amherst P.D. and confirmed the woman's statements. Amherst Police informed NCSO that the suspects in the case were in custody and the Honda could be returned to its owner. Amherst Police then called the owner who responded to Emily Lane to retrieve her Honda.
