LPD talks with the driver of a vehicle that crashed into 210 Market St. |
The crash occurred around 11:05 p.m. when the car, traveling east on Market Street, lost control and crashed into the west end of Lockport Canalside Banquet Center, also known as Lockport Locks & Erie Canal Cruises, 210 Market St.
The driver told police that his gas pedal stuck, causing him to lose control before he struck the building, taking out a fire hydrant in the process. It appears as though the vehicle spun before striking the building, as the rear of the car is what hit the frame. The portion of the building he hit is made of wood and not structurally significant, although it is attached to the main building. It is an enclosed patio used for weddings and parties.
Police said the crash remains under investigation. They did not believe that alcohol played a factor.
The driver, a white male, appeared uninjured, although Twin Cities Ambulance did respond to the scene.
Market Street remains closed while the accident is under investigation.
This fire hydrant should be upright ... and several yards to the west. |
