ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
YMCA Camp Kenan is offering two critical thinking and creativity workshops this fall at the Lockport Family YMCA.
The "Nature is Art!" and "LEGO Build It!" programs will run during both the Fall 1 (Sept. 14 – Oct. 31) and Fall 2 (Nov 2. – Dec. 19) sessions.
The "Nature is Art!" workshop is a hands-on, full participation class where youth will create various art projects using natural and/or traditional materials for nature projects while learning, creating, exploring, and playing together. These classes are designed to help youth develop and express creativity through artistic endeavors.
Each week will feature a different project designed and facilitated by trained staff members. Sessions are divided by age group: “Sprouts” (6-8 years old), “Buds” (9-11 years old), and “Flowers” (12-14 years old). Each section has a maximum enrollment of 12 with classes running for 45 minutes on Monday and Wednesdays, starting at 5:30 p.m. For Lockport Family YMCA members, cost is $24. For program-only members it is $48.
The "LEGO Build It!" program is a hands-on, full participation class where youth will build and design with LEGO bricks to develop problem solving and critical thinking skills while learning, creating, exploring, and playing together. It helps to develop hand-eye coordination, creativity, tactile responses, and more. Each builder will also receive a mini LEGO set to take home with them.
The focus of these workshops is on pre-engineering and STEM fundamentals with two sections available during each session: the Junior Builders (ages 6-8 years old) and the Builders (ages 9-11 years old). Each section has a maximum enrollment of 12. Classes run for 45 minutes on Tuesday and Thursday nights, starting at 6 p.m. For Lockport Family YMCA members, cost is $20, $40 for program members.
For additional information on these programs or to register, visit www.LockportYMCA.com or call the Camp Kenan Director, Luke Kantor, at 622-8484.
