TOWN OF LOCKPORT — A 35-year-old Lockport man was charged Monday afternoon with armed robbery, accused of robbing a man at gunpoint in the Tops parking lot on South Transit Road.
According to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, a male, later identified as Thomas D. Byrne, was talking with another male when he "pulled a black handgun out and demanded money." Byrne then reportedly left the area in a vehicle.
The Niagara County Sheriff's Office and New York State Police searched the area for the alleged thief. A short time later, Deputy Paul Harrer and Trooper Brian Wilcocks located the vehicle in the City of Lockport.
After an investigation by Niagara County Sheriff's Office, Byrne was charged with first-degree robbery and petit larceny before being transported to Niagara County Jail where he was held on $10,000 bail. He is due in Town of Lockport Court on Sept. 10.
