YOUNGSTOWN — A suspicious bag containing bones was found Monday floating in the waters of Lake Ontario near Fort Niagara.
The bag was retrieved by the Niagara County Sheriff's Marine Patrol Unit after the unit had been flagged down by another boat.
The investigation has been turned over to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Bureau.
This is the second incident of bones found on or near the Lake Ontario shore in the past week. On Tuesday, NCSO was called to a Lockport address to speak to a woman who said she found a pair of bones at Golden Hill State Park in Somerset the day prior.
The woman told patrol that she took one of the bones home and posted a picture of it to Facebook. After being told by one of her friends that it was a human bone, she called NCSO, who concluded that the bone was not human.
