NIAGARA FALLS — Independent Living of Niagara County will hold an "organizational meeting" from 2-4 p.m. Tuesday at their office, 746 Portage Road, to discuss the cancellation of the NFTA's Niagara Falls to Lockport bus route — 55L.
The 55L is scheduled to have its last day of service on Friday, having been canceled by the NFTA due to what the transportation agency called "extremely low ridership."
Claudia Kuriakovic of Independent Living said the route is important to the organization's consumers, disabled residents of Niagara County who rely on the route to get where they need to for work or recreation.
"Transportation is a huge issue for us so we're pretty up in arms about the whole situation," Kuriakovic said by phone this afternoon. "We'd like to put something on — probably a rally or something like that in order to re-instate the route."
Tuesday's meeting is to discuss how to go about doing that.
"The more interest we can drum up, the more we can get something accomplished," she said.
