A 27-year-old Lockport man was charged Thursday evening with one count of cruelty to an animal by Lockport police.

According to the arrest report, a Webb Street woman accused Shawn K. Pittler of 39 Phelps St., Apt. 1, with violently striking a cat with a broom, “sending the cat flying in the air and striking the side of the house” on Sunday.

Pittler told police he was attacked by the cat and swatted it with the broom to get it away from him.

Pittler was located on Niagara Street at approximately 7:23 p.m. Thursday and taken into custody. He is due in City Court on Tuesday.

  1. I'd love to whack him with a broom!! 😾 and knowing Lockport,he'll get a small fine and a "don't do it again" and then be on his merry way... They really need to stiffen the penalty for animal abuse,I feel they should put the penalties right up there with child abuse!
