TOWN OF LOCKPORT — An Oxford Lane man was charged early this morning with driving while intoxicated and obstructing traffic after Niagara County Sheriff's deputies found him asleep at the wheel.
Robert J. Bulger, 38, 5713 Oxford Lane., was in the left turn lane on Robinson Road at the intersection of South Transit Road around 1:37 a.m., according to a report filed by NCSO. An uninvolved vehicle had to maneuver around Bulger's Ford Explorer after the traffic signal had turned green, because the vehicle had not moved. Patrol had to loudly knock on the window numerous times to awaken Bulger.
He told NCSO he was on his was home from work in Niagara Falls and denied having had any alcohol to drink, but patrol smelled alcohol on his breath and determined him to be intoxicated. He submitted to a preliminary breath test for which he registered a positive sample of .206 percent blood alcohol content on the alcosensor.
He was remanded to the Niagara County Jail in lieu of $250 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Town of Lockport Court on Thursday. His vehicle was secure by Harrington's Towing with a 12-hour hold.
