A post on the Lockport In Bloom Facebook page late Thursday night announced that organizer Bridgitt Borek, who has chaired the event committee for the past decade, is stepping down.

Borek said the lack of corporate sponsorship and donations over the past few years led to the decision, which she says was not made easily.

The City of Lockport woman offered to assist anyone who was willing to take the event over beginning in 2015.

Her Facebook post follows in its entirety.

I wanted to let my Facebook followers know that Lockport in Bloom will not be continuing this year. We have had a lack of corporate sponsorship and shortage of donations the past few years. Funding this event out of pocket just isn't feasible anymore! I have been so torn with this decision, because it really has been great publicity for the city and generated revenue in the community. There had been a lot of positive feedback!

Over the past several years, as a committee, have reached out to the homeowners and the community soliciting for help. There has been little to no response as far as obtaining help on the committee. It is really a lot of work to run with one or two people.

I really appreciate the opportunity and an amazing experience I've had with Lockport in Bloom! It has been a wonderful 10 years!
