ENP STAFF REPORTS

TOWN OF LOCKPORT — A Niagara County Sheriff’s deputy acted fast Thursday morning when he saw flames coming out of a pair of garbage containers at a Ridge Road home, possibly saving the home in the process.
Deputy John S. Taylor reported that around 12:26 a.m., having seen the fire in the containers, which were right up against the front porch of the home at 4468 Ridge Road, he activated his emergency lights and quickly removed the fire extinguisher from his trunk.
“Patrol extinguished the fires in both garbage containers and moved them away from the residence to prevent further damage,” the report said.
The homeowners weren’t there at the time, but told Niagara County Dispatch that the fire likely started from hot coals that had been removed from their fireplace and discarded.
Deputy Taylor moved the garbage containers away from the home in case the fire re-ignited in the garbage containers.
