BUFFALO — The Buffalo Sabres today announced that the team has recalled goaltender Nathan Lieuwen from the Rochester Americans (AHL). The team has also placed defenseman Josh Gorges on Injured Reserve.

Lieuwen, 23, joins the Sabres for his second career recall since being drafted by Buffalo in the sixth round (167th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. In a seven-game stint with the Sabres last season, Lieuwen compiled a 1-4-0 record with a 2.98 goals-against average and .906 save percentage.

In Rochester this season, Lieuwen has appeared in 10 games, recording a 3-4-0 record and a 3.53 goals-against average. Last season, Lieuwen ranked fourth in save percentage and tied for seventh in goals-against average among AHL netminders, respectively. He has appeared in 46 career AHL games, compiling a 21-17-4 record, a 2.59 goals-against average and a save percentage of .906.

The Abbotsford, BC native signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the organization in May 2012.
