CHEEKTOWAGA — Gov. Andrew Cuomo briefed the media this afternoon on the storm that has ravaged Buffalo's Southtowns, pledging continued state assistance to the region under declared State of Emergency and addressing forecasted snowfall and ice melt in the coming days.

Cuomo was joined by Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, and other local, county and state officials for a comprehensive briefing of the ongoing lake effect snow storm in Western New York. More information is available here.

"Mother Nature is showing us who is boss, once again," the governor said, calling the snowfall, "an historic event."

He lauded local politicians including Poloncarz and Brown who he said "have done extraordinary work. Buffalo itself – known as a city of neighbors – has come together and shown a real sense of community and neighbor-helping-neighbor, which is always good to see."

He also thanked the New York State Police and the Department of Transportation.

Another briefing is planned for this evening.
