ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
The Barge Canal Optimist Club will host the 2014 Happy House for kids aged six months to six years beginning Saturday at the Lockport Family YMCA.
This is the 20th year the Barge Canal Optimists Club has sponsored the Happy House for preschoolers and those young at heart. The event is a non-frightening program offered during the
spooky Halloween season.
“Young children are often too frightened by the ghosts and goblins to participate in Halloween events, said YMCA Youth Director Laurie Ferris. "The Happy house is not a scary event.”
“The Happy House is full of hands-on activities where the young children may visit Pooh Bear’s corner, play a life-size game of Candy Land, bowling, ring toss and even enjoy a story," Ferris said.
Members from the Barge Canal Optimists Club will be dressed in friendly costumes greeting the children, helping them enjoy their visit and making sure each child is given a goodie bag when they leave.
The Happy House will be offered on from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, during the YMCA Open House, as well as 6-8 p.m. Oct. 27-30.
Although adults will be admitted free of charge when accompanied by a young child, there is a $1 fee for each child attending. All proceeds from the Happy House will benefit the YMCA Youth Department.
