TOWN OF LOCKPORT — Two Niagara Falls men were charged Friday with shoplifting from Home Depot on South Transit Road.

According to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office report, the pair were seen around 10:17 a.m. loading tools into the back of a dark colored Audi. Dispatch stated when the males were confronted, one drove away in the vehicle and the other fled on foot carrying a five-piece tool kit. The men also stole three Milwaukee heated sweatshirts and an unknown amount of Milwaukee rechargeable batteries, according to the report.

A short time later NCSO Sgt. James Hildreth conducted a traffic stop on Robinson Road near South Transit Road with a vehicle matching the description. Patrol responded to the location. Both males fitting the description to the suspects were in the vehicle. They were 29-year-old Mark A. Maroney, 1344 Elmwood Ave., Niagara Falls; and Richard Vaccarella, 43, 123 Duero Dr., Niagara Falls.

While transporting Maroney back to Home Depot to be identified by store personnel, he told patrol that he threw the tool kit over the fence. Both males were issued appearance tickets for petit larceny. Vaccarella was released, but Maroney was found to have had three separate warrants out of Niagara Falls. Patrol transported him to NCCC and met with NFPD who took custody of him without incident. Both men are due in the Town of Lockport Court on Tuesday.
