Mother Nature may not have cooperated but a fundraiser at Outwater Park today still raised over $300, according to Hannah Sharp, co-owner of High Spirits Clothing.

Proceeds from Family Fitness Fun Day will go go Challenger Sports of WNY, including the recycled cans collected by the Good Neighbor Redemption Center, both at the event and after. Organizers say the recyclable collection stop on Walnut Street will create an account to allow more donations to Challenger Sports. Six cents per can or bottle will be donated.

Two of the four planned yoga sessions were held before the weather halted the event. Sharp and Laura Igoe both offered free yoga at the park as part of the event. There was also face painting for the kids (and some adults), pizza and prizes.

Sharp said they'll likely hold another Family Fitness Fun Day next year, but earlier in the summer.

Aside from the weather, co-owner Justin Hosey noted that they were competing against the Celtic Festival in Olcott and the Johnny Appleseed Festival at Becker Farms.

Still, Sharps "spirits" remained high. And she's already thinking of the next event.

"We're looking into setting up a winter yoga-thon and we'll take pledges for how long you can last out in the cold," Sharp said. Donations from that event will benefit another local organization — possibly the Niagara SPCA.
