The Locks Heritage District Corporation is inviting local boaters to participate in a flotilla on the Erie Canal on Oct. 3, as part of the dedication of the newly restored Enlarged Erie Canal Locks 69 and 70.
The flotilla will form at the West Genesee Dock at 2 p.m. and will depart for the Lockport Locks at 2:15 p.m. The procession will be led by the tug Urger, launched in 1901 and listed on the National Historic Register, the Urger has served as the canal’s flagship and floating classroom since 1991.
Boaters participating in the flotilla and arriving from the east of the Lockport Locks should form at the base of Lock 34 at 1 p.m. to lock through. No toll will be charged to boats participating in the flotilla.
The formal dedication ceremony will follow the flotilla at 3 p.m.
The Locks Dedication Ceremony is being coordinated by the City of Lockport and the New York State Canal Corporation. Boaters interested in participating in the flotilla should contact Rodney Conrad at 438-2269.
