NEWFANE — A West Somerset Road man told Niagara County Sheriff's deputies on Sunday that someone had hit his mailbox with a car and then drove off.

The man told patrol that at approximately 1:30 a.m., he heard a noise out side of this residence and then a short while later heard the sound of a motor vehicle. When he went outside he observed a maroon pickup truck drive away from his driveway and dark colored car next to his driveway. The dark car then drove off quickly westbound.

The complainant described the driver as a white male between 30 and 40 years old with short dark hair. He said that the dark car hit and damaged his mailbox then went into the ditch. Patrol checked the area but was unable to locate the vehicle.
