Joshua Denisco
TOWN OF LOCKPORT — A Newfane man was charged with promoting prison contraband and criminal possession of a controlled substance after he checked in to the Niagara County Jail Saturday with a pill in his pocket.

Joshua F. Denisco, 22, 6256 Bayview Station, Newfane, was being taken to the jail after arraignment in Town of Lockport Court when Niagara County Sheriff's deputies say he was acting suspiciously in the back seat of the patrol car.

He was advised "that if he had any drugs, needles, weapons or anything of danger on him that when he goes into the Niagara County Jail he could be charged with either a misdemeanor or felony," according to the report filed by NCSO. He said he had none of those items.

Denisco was strip searched at the jail, at which time jail officials found a pink round pill with R33 imprinted on it in an small inner pouch inside of his left jean pocket. He told jail staff and patrol that it was a clonazepam .5 milligram pill.

Patrol transported Denisco back to the Town of Lockport Court for an arraignment on first-degree promoting prisoner contraband and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was again arraigned by Judge Ankowiak and a $1,000 bail was set. He was then remanded back to the Niagara County Jail and is set to appear in the Town of Lockport Court on Thursday.

The suspected clonazepam pill was secured in NCSO evidence lockers for testing.
