On a very busy weekend in East Niagara, hundreds came to Outwater Park for the Lockport Fire Department's 100th anniversary picnic Saturday afternoon.

"Community Day" had fire trucks on display, a huge fire truck slide for kids to play on and a chance for kids and adults alike to test out what it's like to use a fire hose — either on a tether ball or each other. There were also demonstrations by LFD, a smoke-filled trailer for training, and New York State Police were there with a rollover simulator. Of course, no picnic would be complete without hot dogs and popcorn.

Firefighter Jim Scapelliti said there were 200-300 people there at the picnic's height.

Usually the department holds a fundraiser ball, but decided to do a community picnic this year instead in celebration of 100 years of service.
