ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
An Ontario Street man was charged Tuesday evening by Niagara County Sheriff's deputies with impaired driving, driving on the shoulder and driving without a valid inspection.
According to the NCSO report, Dennis G. Perkins, 30, 116 Ontario St., was traveling eastbound on Summit Street when his vehicle drove on the shoulder of the road for no apparent reason, causing patrol to initiate a traffic stop.
Although he denied having any alcohol, patrol said his demeanor was impaired. He said he had previously been on medication. He failed field sobriety tests and a subsequent search of his pocket revealed a metal pipe with residue in it, which he referred to as a "one-hitter." He later admitted that the metal pipe was used for smoking methamphetamines. It was determined by police that he was impaired by CNS Depressants and CNS Stimulants, and was unable to operate a motor vehicle safely.
He was transported to ENH-Lockport for blood and urine testing and then remanded to Niagara County Jail on $250 bail. The samples and metal pipe were sent to the NCSO Laboratory for testing. He is scheduled to appear at the City of Lockport Court on Tuesday.
