ENP STAFF REPORTS

The owner of a DirecTV retail installation company says his employees were on Checkered Tavern Road over the weekend making legitimate calls on customers.
A Hartland woman in the 2400 block of Checkered Tavern Road had told Niagara County Sheriff's deputies that two men impersonated DirecTV employees to gain access to her home over the weekend, but Ken Proefrock, owner of the Warsaw-based Trinstar Satellite, says his company installs and services both DirecTV and Dish Network customers in the Western New York area — and it was his employees who had visited the woman.
Proefrock said by phone this afternoon that Scott Young and Maurice Woods, employees of his, were the ones to visit the woman. He is somewhat confused about the hullabaloo, however, as his employees identified themselves and gave the woman a business card.
As to the "irrelevant questions" the woman told NCSO the men were asking, some of them were typical questions concerning television use and some were simply polite conversation. Among the questions the woman told patrol were if she had a dog and how much she's home to watch television.
And the fact that when she called DirecTV, they denied having people in the area? "If you talk to DirecTV, you're going to talk to one of their 30,000 customer service representatives who have no idea their retailers are in Appleton, New York," Proefrock explained.
"They're working very hard to provide for their family," he added.
No one from the Niagara County Sheriff's Office was available for comment.

Proefrock said Young — from North Tonawanda, and Woods — a Lockport resident, are both good employees who previously worked for Altitude Marketing until about six months ago when he hired them.
"They're working very hard to provide for their family," he added.
