NEWFANE — School district voters approved a $33,918,036 budget today and also approved district funding for the Newfane library.
The budget, approved by a vote of 655-309, is an increase of 0.65 percent over the current. That brings with it a tax levy of $13.03 million, up 1.85 percent, meaning a property tax rate of $28.64 per $1,000 of assessed property value in Newfane and Wilson, and $26.35 in Lockport and Cambria — an increase of 1.85 percent in each municipality.
Patrick Kilcullen and James Little won the two board seats with 609 and 590 votes respectively. Former board member Joseph Flagler placed third with 488 votes.
Voters also approved a proposition to convert Newfane Free Library into a district library. The $125,000 budget was passed by a vote total of 507-385. The estimated 27-cent-per $1000 library tax will replace the funding previously provided by the Town of Newfane.
East Niagara Post now publishes garage and yard sales.
