won the Best Sports Award this afternoon at the 
2014 Storrs All-High Photo Show.

Kate Bochnewetch, a Newfane High School senior, was presented with the Best Sports Award Sunday at the 2014 Storrs All High Photo Show Awards ceremony at the Kenan Center.

Bochnewetch's photo, "Defy," was one of 16 major student award winners of the 204 student submissions to the 29th annual show. She was on hand to accept the award and take in the show opening, as were approximately 100 other students from the Western New York area.

Other major student awards were presented to:
  • Evan Hughes of C.W. Baker High School for "Moon Flower," Best of Show Award for a student-processed photo.
  • Rachel Janish of Kenmore West High School for "A Place in the Sun," Best of Show Award for a commercially processed photo.
  • Alex Currie of Amherst for "Our Last Hope," NeXt Vision Award for Excellence.
  • Allie Scumaci of Williamsville East for "Grand Central," Best Photojournalism/Documentary Award.
  • Courtney Bacon of Southwestern for "Self-Portrait in Winter," Best Portrait Award.
  • Amanda Abers of Southwestern for "Untitled," Best Black & White Award.
  • Morel Malcolm of Skaneateles for "Lady in the Water," Best Color Award.
  • Sam Smith of C.W. Baker for "Super Sonic," Best Urbanscape Award.
  • Sydney Barbato of C.W. Baker for "It's Always Sunny in Jamaica," Best Landscape Award. 
  • Kara Lukomski of Williamsville East for "The Truth About Forever," Best Still Life Award.
  • Elisabeth Wertheim of Clarence for "Barn of Clarence," Best Architecture Award.
  • Emily Ford of Clarence for "Pleasure Pier," Best Waterscape Award.
  • Abby Owens of C.W. Baker for "Beauty in Imperfection," Best Floralscape.
  • Courney Haeick of Kenmore East for "Pitching Through Sunlight," Best Animal Award.
  • Rachele Anella of Charter High School for Applied Technologies for "Waterfall," Best Computer Generated Award.
Braden Whitford's "Nature's Escape at Pingevellir," center, earned him a Merit Award at the All-High Photo Show. Whitford represented Roy-Hart in the exhibition. 

The Best School Award went to C.W. Baker instructor Patricia Johnson. 

In addition to the major awards, one student from each school was presented a Merit Award. East Niagara was represented by Lockport High School, Newfane High School and Royalton-Hartland High School. 

The Lockport award went to Xavier Krull, a 10th-grader, for "Butterflies." The Newfane award went to Taylor Bisher, a 10th-grader, for "The Woods." Roy-Hart's award went to Brenden Whitford, a senior, for "Nature's Escape at Pingevellir."

Xavier Krull won Lockport's Merit Award 
in the show for "Butterflies."

Other Merit Awards went to: 
  • Christine McCoy of Alden for "Untitled."
  • Kayla Jackson of Akron for "Glass Elevator."
  • Alexa Zurek of Amherst for "Sleeping Beauties."
  • Jennifer Holley of Cassadaga Valley for "Untitled." 
  • Alex Macchioni of Cattaraugus Little Valley for "Reflections of Nature."
  • Sydney Moxley of Charter High School for Applied Technologies for "Dani."
  • Sarah Wolfe of Clarence for "Hidden."
  • Karla Bitter of C.W. Baker for "Feathered Folds."
  • Constance Pullinzi of Genesee Valley BOCES for "Matrimonio Italiano."
  • Jackie Chuchanis of Kenmore East for "Breakaway."
  • Jessica Trainor of Kenmore West for "Sonic Fractures."
  • Sadie Petito of Lewiston-Porter for "Arachnophobia."
  • Michelle Morales of North Rose-Wolcott for "Masked Megan."
  • Tyler Traina of North Tonawanda for "Denny Lane."
  • Elise Walsh of Mount St. Mary Academy for "View from Erice."
  • Samantha King of Palmyra-Macedon for "Butterfly."
  • Nikita Harding of Pembroke for "Pressure."
  • Alaina Davis of Skaneateles for "Pierce."
  • Taylor West of Southwestern for "U.S. Olympic Training Center., Lake Placid, N.Y."
  • Hannah Sigurdson of Sweethome for "Two Sides."
  • Brooke Smith of Tonawanda for "Peacock."
  • Grace Van Hoven of West Genesee for "New York Bagels & Coffee."
  • Emily Bezbatchenko of Williamsville East for "In Suspension."
  • Stephen Rinaldo of Williamsville North for "Flower in the Water."
The works were judged by Christopher Gallant, an assistant professor in the digital media and communications department at Hilbert College. 

The show continues through April 27 at the Kenan Center House Gallery, 433 Locust Street. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m.
