The Buffalo Sabres were never in the game tonight as they fell to the Philadelphia Flyers, 5-2 in Philly.

The Flyers started the scoring at 13:30 of the first period with a Matt Read snap shot past Nathan Lieuwen. Zac Rinaldo put Philly up 2-0 at 7:40 of the second period, followed by power play tip-in goal by Brayden Schenn at 14:20 of the second. Vincent Lecavalier made it 4-0 with just over two minutes to go in period number 2.

The Sabres lost defenseman Chad Ruhwedel in the second period when he was hit in the head by Rinaldo at 4:29 of the third period. Rinaldo was assessed a match penalty, which means the NHL Department of Player Safety will automatically review the hit for supplemental discipline. Ruhwedel was taken to the Sabres locker room and did not return to the game.

The Sabres finally got on the board at 7:26 of the third period with a power play goal by Cody Hodgson, his 19th of the season. It was, however, the only shot the Sabres could muster of the five-minute power play from Rinaldo's hit.

Philly's Schenn scored his second of the night to make it 5-1 at 15:10 of the third. Mike Weber scored his first of the season for Buffalo at 17:48 of the third, making the final tally 5-2, Philly.

Lieuwen made 32 saves in the loss, the Sabres' third straight, putting them at 21-48-9 on the season for 51 points. With four games remaining, the Sabres are guaranteed their worst record since their sophomore outing in 1971-72.
