NYPA officials have released information on tonight's fire, saying that it was contained to one of 13 transformers at the plant. There were no injuries or disruptions in service reported.
An investigation into the fire is under way but early reports indicated that a blown transformer was the cause of the fire.
There had been an explosion reported at the plant shortly after 7 p.m., followed by a fire, which was attended to by Upper Mountain, Niagara Active, Lewiston No. 1, Sanborn and Air Base fire departments.
The Sheriff's Office had asked that motorists use alternate routes to avoid the Robert Moses Parkway across the face of the power plant.
The Robert Moses Parkway was re-opened shortly after 9 p.m. when the fire was contained.
