A Brooks Road resident told Niagara County Sheriff's deputies on Saturday that someone else used his Social Security number to file taxes.
The man told NCSO that he submitted his taxes on Thursday through Turbo Tax, and received notification that his claim could not be further processed because his Social Security number was already used to file taxes for 2013.
He said he contacted Turbo Tax, the Social Security Administration, the Internal Revenue Service, and the Federal Trade Commission. He stated those services were unable to provide a detailed explanation of the incident, aside from telling him his Social Security number was already used to file taxes for the 2013. He was instructed by one of the services to contact the local police and complete a police report. Patrol issued an Identity Theft Victim's Packet to the complainant.
