CONTRIBUTED PHOTO - Police are investigating the suspicious death of a 37-year-old woman at 290 Niagara Street, shown here. Police are asking anyone with any information to contact them.

The death of a 37-year-old woman Friday night on Niagara Street in the City of Lockport remains under investigation by the Lockport Police Department, but new details are scant.

According to LPD, "Detectives are interviewing people in the area to determine cause of death. More information will be provided as the situation develops." They have asked anyone with information to call them at 433-7700.

A resident of the home where the woman was found — 290 Niagara St. — was charged Saturday with giving a false statement in connection with the investigation. Roman Nelson, 56, was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled for Lockport City Court at 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Sources told East Niagara Post on Friday that police were looking into it as a potential homicide, but police have not yet publicly stated that, only referring to it as "suspicious." A news report by WGRZ, in fact, says they do not believe that it is a homicide.
