ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
A report of a grenade shut down a Lockport business and major intersection this evening.
Lockport Police responded to Walnut and Locust streets around 9:30 p.m. in response to a call that there was a live grenade -- or grenades -- inside Toys from Lo, a used toy store on Locust Street near Walnut.
While reports differ on what police actually found, and LPD has yet to release a statement on the incident, the owner of the store said that the incident stemmed from a purchase he had made earlier in the day.
Store owner Josh Lopez posted publicly on his personal Facebook page that he had purchased a remote controlled car from a kid, which turned out to be broken. When he asked for his money back, the kid called police saying he had a bomb in the store.
Police re-opened the intersection shortly before 11 p.m.

Now Lopez, 36, has done just that, opening Toys from Lo at 50 Locust Street in the former John's Furniture store.
Toys from Lo carries everything imaginable, focusing on vintage toys and video games from old-school Nintendo cartridges to He-Man action figures, sports memorabilia and board games.
For Lopez, who lives on Adam Street, it's a huge life upgrade from what he used to do. Having spent time in prison, he's excited to be on the straight and narrow and focused on becoming a positive role model.
Toys from Lo is a registered member of the Niagara County "Thank A Vet" program, which offers discounts to military veterans as a sign of appreciation for their service.
Toys from Lo has somewhat unusual hours for Lockport. It's open noon - 3 p.m. Sunday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. - 11 p.m. Friday, and noon - 10 p.m. Saturday. Lopez says he wanted to stay open late for kids and parents alike.
"They might want a game at 7:45 on a Friday night," he said.
