ENP STAFF REPORTS

The Lockport Mural on Main Committee will sponsor a benefit canal cruise aboard Lockview VI at 6 p.m. July 2 at Lockport Locks & Erie Canal Cruises.
The event is one of a series of activities designed to help raise $30,000 needed to create an historic Erie Canal-themed mural on the east side wall of 51 Main Street.
Following the one-hour canal cruise aboard the authentic paddle wheel boat, attendees will be served dinner at Canalside’s patio grove and will be entertained by acclaimed pianist Ken Kaufman and soloist Melissa Croff.
The Mural on Main Canal Cruise is also one of the week-long events of the City of Lockport Sesquicentennial, and details are available at Lockport150.com.
The Mural on Main Project is chaired by George Fritz, owner of Mills Jewelers. Renowned muralist Augustina Droze has been commissioned to create the 42-foot high by 60-foot wide color painting, which has already attracted the support of nearly 100 contributors to the campaign.
According to Fritz, the mural will be painted in a realistic and very detailed style on a location which may be viewed by both passersby on Main Street as well as visitors traveling on the Erie Canal. Augustina Droze’s artistic career includes 14 years as a muralist, which have commanded the attention of public art enthusiasts from both throughout the United States and overseas.
Attendance for the Canal Cruise is open to the public. Reservations for the evening event are available at $50 per person, and may be made by calling committee member David Kinyon at 638-1119 or online at MuralonMain.org. Advance reservations are required, and are limited to 150 registrants.
