WHEATFIELD -- Niagara County Republicans moved quickly to endorse three candidates that the party’s chairman termed “an effective team at the state and federal levels that will continue to deliver for our region” Thursday at a heavily-attended county GOP meeting.
With unanimous votes to back incumbent U.S. Rep. Chris Collins, state Sen. Robert G. Ortt, and 145th Assembly District candidate Angelo J. Morinello, the more than 150 local Republicans in attendance lined up behind a team that Party Chairman Scott Kiedrowski said “share Niagara County’s values.”
“I have watched Rob Ortt every day this past year deliver for his constituents, working to reduce the local costs of expensive state-mandated programs, pushing for repeal of the unconstitutional SAFE Act, and fighting for our neighborhoods to get their fair share for infrastructure and school aid,” Kiedrowski told fellow Republicans. “Rob Ortt is standing up for Niagara County because every day he’s in Albany, he never forgets that’s where he’s from.”
Kiedrowski also won unanimous backing for Collins’ re-election, telling local Republican committeemen, “Chris Collins has opposed President Obama’s liberal agenda, he’s worked to cut spending in Washington, and he’s been an aggressive advocate for efforts like an expanded mission at the Niagara Falls Air Base. We’re endorsing him because he’s fighting for us.”
Niagara County Republicans also moved swiftly to endorse the candidacy of Morinello, a long-serving Niagara Falls City Court judge who they hope will restore Republican representation in the 145th Assembly District. The seat is currently held by John Ceretto, who switch from the Republican to Democrat party in 2015.
Niagara County Republican Party Vice Chairman Jim Heuer praised Morinello, who he called “a friend and an honorable man.”
“The voters of the 145th District voted three times for Republican representation, but that was stolen from them,” Heuer said. “Angelo Morinello will actually keep his word, honor his promises, and be the same man in Albany that he is here, at home.”
Kiedrowski agreed with Heuer’s assessment.
“It’s time the voters of the 145th Assembly District had a representative who will keep his word,” the chairman said. “The current Assemblyman lied about who he was when he ran, and he cut a deal with Gov. [Andrew] Cuomo and the Downstate interests. Angelo Morinello won’t turn his back on his neighbors in places like Wheatfield, Lewiston, and Niagara Falls.”
County Republicans also endorsed the re-election bids of Assemblywoman Jane L. Corwin in the 144th Assembly District and Assemblyman Ray Walter in the 146th Assembly District.
