DENVER -- The Buffalo Sabres snatched defeat from the jaws of victory Wednesday night, allowing a last-minute goal by the Colorado Avalanche.
The game got off to a slow start with neither team getting on the board until Evander Kane scored his 10th goal of the season for the Sabres 16:38 into the second period. The power play goal was assisted by Jack Eichel and Ryan O'Reilly.
Alex Tanguay tied the game for Colorado 9:23 into the third, assisted by Carl Soderberg and Francois Beauchemin. The match appeared to be headed to overtime until Beauchemin scored the game winner with just 32 ticks left on the clock. Alex Tanguay assisted.
The Sabres, now 19-24-4, next play Friday when the Detroit Red Wings visit First Niagara Center.
