CHICAGO -- Buffalo Sabres All-Star Ryan O'Reilly scored his 17th goal of the season Friday night, but the Chicago Blackhawks earned a 3-1 victory over the Sabres.

The Sabres held their own against the Blackhawks for most of the game, being behind by only a goal until the final 25 seconds when Jonathan Toews scored an empty netter to ensure the 3-1 victory.

Niklas Hjalmarsson opened the scoring at 18:26 of the first period, assisted by Erik Gustafsson and Toews.

O'Reilly tied the game at 11:37 of the third period, assisted by Jamie McGinn. Phillip Danault put Chicago back on top at 15:01, before Toews empty netter closed out scoring.

Sabres netminder Chad Johnson made 42 saves for the Sabres, who now stand at 15-22-4 on the season after their sixth straight loss. They next play Sunday afternoon against the Winnipeg Jets.
