WINNIPEG -- An unselfish play by Sabres' forward Evander Kane allowed for the first hat trick of Sam Reinhart's career -- in the Sabres' first win in six games and Kane's first game against his former team, the Winnipeg Jets.

Reinhart scored early for the Sabres, putting Buffalo on the board just 1:37 into the first period. Johan Larsson and Mike Weber assisted. Blake Wheeler tied it for the Jets at 5:21, deflecting a shot by Bryan Little. Former Sabre Drew Stafford also assisted on the play. Stafford was part of the February 2015 trade deal that brought Kane to Buffalo. Reinhart scored again at 14:29 of the first period, assisted this time by Rasmus Ristolainen and Jack Eichel.

In the second period, Mathie Perrault tied it at 2 with a snap shot just 55 seconds in. Andrew Ladd and Bryan Little scored on the goal.

Marcus Foligno put the Sabres back in the lead at 4:12 of the third period, assisted by Brian Gionta and Jake McCabe. With just 26 seconds to go, Kane was fed the puck by Ryan O'Reilly with a chance at and empty-net goal against his former team. But Kane passed the puck to Reinhart for his third goal of the game and 12th of the season.

The Sabres, now 16-22-4 next play the Wild in Minnesota on Tuesday.
