The thief went directly for the donation jar, which is believed to have had
approximately $70 in it, intended for Lakeview Animal Sanctuary.
An unknown assailant broke into Family Video, 76 East Ave., around 12:45 a.m. stealing a jar of donations intended for Lakeview Animal Shelter.

The thief used a hammer to smash the glass door on the store, running straight for the donation jar and fleeing when he heard the alarm. The donation jar is believed to have approximately $70 in it.

The entire break-in was caught on video, which Lockport Police have reviewed. It shows the assailant enter the store's vestibule, look into the store and then duck down. He then broke the glass door and went in, grabbing the donation jar and running out -- all within a matter of seconds.

The subject was wearing a gray hoodie with a plaid shirt underneath it, what appears to be tan pants with a black belt, and black shoes with white soles. He used the hood to keep his face hidden and wore gloves during the crime.

The crime is under investigation by LPD.
