EDMONTON, Alberta -- Jack Eichel scored his ninth goal of the season against the only other team in the NHL that had a chance to pick him in this year's entry draft -- but the Sabres lost to the Edmonton Oilers, 4-2.

Connor McDavid, the player Edmonton picked with its No. 1 draft pick, is sidelined with broken clavicle.

Eichel got things going at 6:58 of the first period, assisted by Brian Gionta and Jamie McGinn. Teddy Purcell tied it for Edmonton at 9:36 of the first, assisted by Taylor Hall and Leon Draisatl. Jordan Eberle made it 2-1 Oilers at 16:06, assisted by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. A Taylor Hall power play goal at 18:55 made it 3-1 Edmonton. Purcell and Justin Schultz assisted.

Ryan O'Reilly tried to get the Sabres back into the game at 13:22 of the second period, assisted by Zach Bogosian andCarlo Colaiacovo. but Luke Gazdic put Edmonton back up by 2 at 17:53, assisted by Oscar Klefbom and Anton Lander.

The Sabres, not 11-13-3, next play the Vancouver Canucks in Vancouver tonight.
