"Code Blue" is looking for single-serving non-perishable food items to have available for those seeking short term emergency shelter when temperatures drop below 15 degrees.
Requested items include: packaged crackers, cereal/granola bars, single-serving cereal boxes, fruit cups, individual sized chips, pudding cups, etc.
Donations can be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday to:
Code Blue is a collaboration between the Dale Association, Salvation Army, Lockport CARES, St. John’s Outreach, Grace Episcopal, The Chapel, the Lockport Police Department, and the Grigg Lewis Foundation to care for those without heat and/or shelter this winter.
Code Blue can be called from Oct. 1 to March 31, every year, when weather conditions indicate the temperature will drop to 15 degrees or lower overnight. It is open to any homeless or elderly in need, along with people, who for whatever reason, have lost heat or had a water pipe burst.
Until Dec. 31, the shelter will be located at the Dale Association. From Jan. 1 through March 31, the shelter will be located at the Salvation Army. During the evening people at the center will be given food and drinks, provided by local non-profits and organizations. They also will have access to the
facilities. The shelter will be open from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. with as many as 50 cots available.
During the day, the Lockport Public Library, St. John's Outreach and the Salvation Army are open to the public and to those looking to take shelter from the cold.
