ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
Andy Cooney, direct from another sold out appearance at Carnegie Hall, will perform a Christmas concert at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Historic Palace Theatre.
Cooney, one of "The New York Tenors," has always been a favorite in the Irish music scene. Christened “Irish America’s Favorite Son” by The New York Times, he has recorded 18 albums to date including his latest release, “Bright Brand New Day” with Phil Coulter and his Orchestra.
Cooney is an old friend to Lockport, and his performance Thursday will be his fourth at the Palace Theatre.
Concert Chair Barb Scirto Sullivan recalls that his last performance was literally the talk of the town the following day. People who heard it was an amazing evening of entertainment but didn't attend, said it was because they don't like Irish music. "What a shame!" she answered! "A Classic Irish Christmas isn't about Irish music. It's about how the Irish celebrate the holiday by bringing family and friends together and creating cherished memories with laughter and song."
Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Challenger League of Lockport to aid in building a baseball field with paved baselines for the handicapped.
Tickets for the event are $20, and are available at: The Palace Theatre Box Office, Scirto’s Awards & Gifts, and Mills Jewelers. The doors open at 6:30 for general seating, and there will be an afterglow following the concert at Lock 34 on Main Street.
