WHEATFIELD -- The Niagara County Sheriff's Office is investigating the second daytime burglary in the past week.

According to NCSO, an unknown person broke into a home in the 6400 block of Ward Road around 11:30 a.m. Monday.

"The homeowner heard her doorbell ring while she was in a back room at her residence," according to a press release from the Sheriff's Office. "Not being able to get to the front door right away, she then heard the sound of someone in her residence. Believing it may be a family member, she called out a relative's name, but no one answered. She then heard someone running out of the house."

When deputies responded, they found a picnic table moved to under a rear kitchen window and that window forced open.

On Friday, a Wilson resident was alarmed to find an unknown man standing in their living around 11 a.m. The suspect in that case is described as a six-foot-tall white male in his mid-30s with a medium build and black hair, described as a "grown out buzz cut." He was wearing a black puffy long winter jacket with red trim around the collar, a white t-shirt and blue jeans."

After being discovered by the homeowner, the Wilson suspect fled the house in a small black vehicle with a flat square back eastbound on Chestnut Road.

The Sheriff's Criminal Investigation Bureau is investigating both incidents. It is not known if they are related.

The Sheriff's Office reminds residents to call 911 whenever they see suspicious activity in and around their neighborhoods.
