TOWN OF LOCKPORT — A 62-year-old Pine Street woman was charged Saturday with petit larceny of a pork product from Save-A-Lot on South Transit Road.

According to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, Maxine Ann Townsend, 141 Pine St., had been seen leaving the store by store employees, "and her purse was abnormally large and was bulging." The woman then returned to the store "and her purse was noticeably smaller and not bulging."

This caused employees to check the security tape, which showed Townsend put a ham in her purse before leaving the store.

She was charged with petit larceny and remanded to the Niagara County Jail on $250 police bail. She is set to appear in the Town of Lockport Court on Thursday.
