The City of Lockport will hold a Locktoberfest celebration again, taking place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 26 at the Flight of Five and Canal Street in downtown Lockport.

The event will celebrate the first successful full season of Flight of Five locks demonstrations and recognize many of the volunteer lock tenders who offered their time and talent to put the restored locks on display. It will also serve as an unofficial close to the city's 150th anniversary.

Locktoberfest will feature an expanded Community Market that will include craft beer and wine tastings, Flight of Five locks demonstrations, entertainment, and children’s activities.

In addition to the Community Market taking place from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., a ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 10 a.m., entertainment will take place on the main stage from noon – 5 p.m., children’s activities will take place from 9:30 a.m. – noon, and Erie Canal Mascot Sal the Mule will be on hand from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

This year will also include two contests: a coloring contest for children and a competition to reenact an iconic photo of real life lock tenders from the nineteenth century.

Canal Corp. Director Brian U. Stratton called Locktoberfest "a perfect way to celebrate the season of mist over America’s most influential waterway, crisp air, brilliant foliage, and a plentiful harvest across the quaint communities nestled along the banks of the Erie Canal."

Lockport Mayor Anne McCaffrey said she is "excited to host the second annual Locktoberfest as we continue to work to establish the event as an annual celebration of the Erie Canal and its positive impact on commerce and development. As always, I am proud to showcase our city and heritage.”
