Between DWI arrests, other arrests and traffic tickets, over 1,000 people were caught in a county-wide law enforcement campaign from Aug. 21 through Sept. 7, according to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office.

The campaign, which included the Niagara Falls Police Department, North Tonawanda Police Department, New York State Park Police, Lockport Police Department, Middleport Police Department, Lewiston Police Department, Town of Niagara Police Department, Somerset Police Department and Youngstown Police Department, in addition to NCSO, involved utilized increased patrol units that were specifically designated for DWI enforcement.

Over the 17 day campaign, 35 people across the county were arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. Additionally, 97 people were arrested on other charges and 951 traffic tickets were written.

Future crackdown periods are already scheduled before the end of the year with all agencies being involved.
