A handful of tickets remain for the Discovery Gala and Auction from 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the Erie Canal Discovery Center.

The evening promises delicious cuisine and the chance to win beautiful auction items and baskets while you support Niagara History. Guests will savor a wide variety of delectable entrée hors d’oeuvres catered by Lockport’s award-winning Shamus Restaurant as well as wine from Schulze Vineyards & Winery and craft beer from Woodcock Brothers Brewing Company. To top it off, there will be treats provided by Cream & Sugar Ice Cream Café, Barker Chocolate Box and Village Bake Shoppe.

Fine dining becomes even finer accompanied by smooth jazz, too, performed by the Buffalo jazz ensemble Pro Bono, which will entertain throughout the evening.

Food is only half of the fun; The rest is the auction offering you a chance to win some beautiful prizes and more than 30 theme baskets. Niagara County Sheriff Jim Voutour returns as auctioneer with his skill, humor and style making the live auction a unique and entertaining experience.

Live and silent auctions will offer an assortment of paintings by regional artists, plus several spectacular overnight stays at hotels such as a choice of one of Niagara’s Finest Inns in Niagara-on-the-Lake, the Glen Iris Inn at Letchworth State Park, and Salvatore’s Grand Hotel. The auction will also offer a sail on the “Spirit of Buffalo” with dinner for two at the Pearl Street Grill, other dining packages, a foursome at Hickory Stick Golf Course, and a MacKenzie Childs teapot. There is truly something for everyone’s tastes and interests, and nothing can top the excitement of bidding for and hoping to win your heart’s desire.

For 94 years, The History Center of Niagara has been devoted to preserving and protecting the history of Niagara County and the Erie Canal. The proceeds raised for the Discovery Gala will be used to develop and expand the many adult and children’s education programs conducted during the year.

During the hours of the event, guests are welcome to explore the latest exhibit of art and artifacts at the Penney Gallery, which tell the story of the life of local philanthropist and collector, Charles Rand Penney.

Tickets for the Discovery Center Gala and Auction are $50. For tickets and information, call the Niagara History Center at 434-7433, or Erie Canal Discovery Center at 439-0431.
