This week I checked off two more things. I visited another restaurant and a new café.

The first was the new café. I went to Cornerstone Bakery Café, located at:  1551 Niagara Falls Boulevard in Amherst, inside the Burlington Plaza. This was a perfect place for any kind of meeting and they ambiance was great. It was quiet, and peaceful. I bought a smoothie, that was fantastic, and for an extra 50 cents, I got an extra shot of protein. I was coming off caffeine high from my earlier coffee, and so the smoothie was quite refreshing.

And the second thing I did was try out a new restaurant. The restaurant I tried was Mericana here in Lockport on Main Street next to Lock 34. I have only ever really seen the restaurant from the outside, and it was nice to see the inside. My first impressions were classy, and quiet. Not many people in the restaurant when I went in. Sometimes as a mother, I learn new things that I didn’t know were a thing. This time, that just because there is a kids menu, doesn’t mean it is good for kids. I wouldn’t recommend taking children here. I was lucky that there was only one other table being used because my munchkin suddenly got hit with some energy. We had a really nice waitress though so I didn’t panic. I think the thing I didn’t appreciate the most were the prices. The food wasn’t bad, but it was as great as you would hope with such high prices. I am glad I tried it, but I am not sure this is a place I will be dying to try again in the future.

You’d be amazed the amount of adrenaline that comes from just standing in that sprinkler like I did in Canalside, or scanning while you’re driving to find a sprinkler to run through. There have not been many active sprinklers around Lockport this summer. I see them when I am busy, and they are gone when I have free time. This is something I am going to keep my eyes peeled for this next week.

I guess these are the weeks where you can feel summer start to slip away. Like many Buffalonians, I am not too happy about the coming seasons. I do love summer, but wish it was always spring and fall. These are the perfect seasons, not too hot, and not too cold.

As the weeks draw closer and closer to colder weather, you will see some of the things on the list disappear as I figure out the things on the list that I really want to check off, and the things that are not that exciting for me. It has been a great summer, and I am happy that I have stepped out of my comfort zone to seize the day for some of these columns. These Dog Days aren’t over yet.
