Sheriff Jim Voutour announced the promotion of Captain Michael P. Dunn to the rank of Chief Deputy. The promotion follows the retirement of long-time Chief Deputy Tom Beatty.

Chief Deputy Dunn is a life long resident of Niagara County and graduated from Nichols High School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1997. Chief Dunn was hired at the sheriff's office as a road patrol deputy in March of 2001. While in the police academy, he received the Academic Excellence award and the Overall Outstanding Student Award. Chief Dunn was promoted to Sergeant in 2008 and again to Captain in 2011. He has been a member of the Emergency Response Team since 2007 and served as team commander the past few years.

Chief Dunn holds several command level certifications and is an instructor and field training officer.

"Chief Dunn is a highly intelligent and effective leader at the Sheriff's Office," Sheriff Voutour said. "He is well-respected by his peers in the law enforcement community. He will serve as the Administrative Chief Deputy which includes oversight of the 911 center, hiring and personnel, grant writing and general administrative duties." Chief Dunn resides in the Town of Newfane with his wife and three children.
